OC Parks Update

Date:

Guided Activities Resume in OC Parks’

Limestone Canyon Nature Preserve

OC Parks announces the reopening of Limestone Canyon Nature Preserve, with scheduled programs resuming after the Silverado and Bond fires impacted the area in late 2020.

Throughout the closure, OC Parks and partner Irvine Ranch Conservancy (IRC) carefully restored lost infrastructure and monitored the recovery of native habitats. Crews replaced the West Sinks viewing deck, installed new trail signage and improved trails that were significantly impacted by fire and firefighting operations.

“We are thrilled to reintroduce Limestone Canyon Nature Preserve to the public,” said Donald P. Wagner, Orange County Supervisor of the Third District. “I want to give a special thank you to OC Parks and Irvine Ranch Conservancy for their diligence in restoring the area after the wildfires. We greatly appreciate our community’s patience and support during this critical recovery time. I’m happy that families can enjoy this unique outdoor resource again — we all look forward to seeing the land flourish and wildlife thrive in the years to come.”

OC Parks and IRC hosted Wilderness Access Day Feb. 5 in Limestone Canyon, the first since 2020. Hikers, mountain bikers, and equestrians ventured on an array of self-guided trails varying in distance and difficulty to revisit the rejuvenated landscapes and wildlife of Limestone Canyon Nature Preserve.
