Exciting youth in our community:
Cameron Manor raises butterflies from caterpillars, has been published on
the cover of an international children’s writing magazine, and also has her
own philanthropic business called “Cameron’s Caring Cakes” in which she
delivers homemade cakes to the elderly.
She also writes, produces, directs,
and stars in her own educational science videos. But she needs your help to
represent the country as a Top Ten Role Model for the nation.
30 girls out of 2,000 entries were chosen from across the U.S. and Canada to
represent the social issues they care about as well as inspire other girls
with what they are doing.
The initial 30 girls were chosen from their
crafts and essays, but the final ten will be chosen by popular vote.
“Anyone can vote every 24 hours, so I thought I would reach out to my
hometown to help me represent our part of the county,” says Cameron.
What does Cameron love about her hometown?
“I live in a town with many cultures–Asian, Hispanic, Caucasian, and
African-American, and their languages and food enrich my life. My blonde
nine-year-old brother attends a bilingual school, so he can always secretly
translate for me when people are talking about me in another language.
My town is
also a place for art. I love attending plays and musicals. Some of my
favorite memories involve family outings to the Curtain Call Dinner Theatre
in nearby Tustin, CA. I have seen nearly every production there since I was
about 5 yrs. old.
The last thing I enjoy about living here is the beach. I
love all the sea creatures–watching a whale as big as a house leap out of
the water, then crash into the sea to scrape off her barnacles, observing
dolphins bark and dance, and laughing as a whole community of sea lions
sunbathe and scratch.”
But Cameron needs your vote.
“Please help!” says Cameron. “I don’t have the political machines to
generate votes as some of the other girls do, so I’m relying on my hometown
for support. California can be a pretty big place you can get lost in, but
I know the people in my hometown care.”
You can vote every 24 hours for Cameron by visiting www.discoverygirls.com
and setting up an account. Click on the big pink banner that says “VOTE!”
and you will see pictures of 30 finalists. If you click on the “Vote for
Cameron” link under her picture every 24 hours, you will be helping a local
girl represent you.
Cameron is the daughter of Rich and Lori Manor of Laguna Hills, CA.
