Thousands to Pick Up Trash in Orange County During World’s Largest Cleanup Event
- Orange County Coastkeeper will host several sites across the county
- Last year, over 7,000 volunteers collected more than 53,000 pounds of trash
- Local effort also a part of 35th Annual California Coastal Cleanup Day
Armed with reusable bags and buckets, thousands will defend Orange County’s bays, inland waters and beaches from coastal pollution on Coastal Cleanup Day – the world’s largest trash cleanup.
Trash from inland communities travels through storm drains and rivers, polluting the region’s waterways and beaches. Trash cleanups stand as a last line of defense to prevent this debris from polluting local waters and harming wildlife.
Last year, more than 7,000 Orange County volunteers collected more than 53,000 pounds of trash and recyclable materials during this three-hour event across Orange County. This year, Coastkeeper expects to remove even more trash from local waterways, to preserve and protect our coast.

FireScape Workshop to Show Orange County Residents How to Prepare Homes Against Fire Risk
Orange County Coastkeeper will host a free workshop teaching local residents how they can create a firewise garden and defensible space for their homes. At the FireScape workshop, Coastkeeper Garden Director and FireScape specialist will cover practical and efficient landscaping techniques to improve curb appeal and safeguard homes from wildfires.
Due to this year’s heavy rainfall, brush and weed growth is much heavier than in past drier years. This growth can quickly become fuel for fast spreading wildfires, putting Orange County residents at risk. The FireScape workshop will teach residents how to protect their homes against harmful fires.

- Wednesday, September 25: 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m.
